One of Switzerland's best kept secrets, Arosa at 1,800m, is a real gem of a resort for beginners and intermediates with skiing back to the village well into April.
Less than 3 hours by train from Zurich, the last hour's journey from Chur is a joy at every twist and turn and is a great start to your holiday.
Although Arosa's ski area is not as large as some other resorts it more than makes up for this with its charm, lack of queues and relaxed skiing.
Winter walking is wonderful with a great variety of prepared marked paths with approximate walking times as well as Nordic Walking for the more adventurous. All this within the ski area allowing everyone to meet up in the mountain restaurants for lunch.

Nearly all of the skiing is above the tree line and there is an efficient network of runs connecting Arosa's two ski areas. With plenty of wide runs it is ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers.

The highest point of the Weisshorn is reached by a two stage cable car. Tschuggen, the mid station is where most of the beginners’ slopes are situated. It is one of the main focal points for the runs with lifts fanning out to both the Hörnli and the Bruggerhorn. The Hörnli area (which is also served by gondolas from Innerarosa) has a couple of black runs though Arosa does not offer much in the way of truly challenging skiing.

Arosa is, however, a pleasure for families, beginners and intermediates. The wide open pistes are uncrowded and non-skiers can easily meet up with skiers for lunch in one of the 8 mountain restaurants.

If you feel like a change from the norm then there are plenty of choices on offer. Why not try snowshoe hiking? No experience is necessary and you can set off on your own on a recommended trail? For the less adventurous there are guided hikes. Sledge runs are great fun too and there are three prepared runs in Arosa - the longest is 2.8km!

Resort Facilities

Ski Hire Ski hire is available directly from the Sunstar Park Hotel or from the sports shop which is a few minutes from the hotel - reception will point you in the right direction.

Lift Passes Available in the tourist office and at the main lift stations.

Ski School Lessons are from Monday to Friday. 09.45 - 11.45 and 14.15 to 16.15.

Walking There are over 60km of prepared walking paths. A special hiker’s pass is available for use on mountain lifts..

Cross Country Skiing 25km of cross country trails.

Toboggan Runs There are three toboggan runs - two of which are shared by walkers so take care! The longest run is 2.8km.

Skating From the middle of December until the middle of April you can venture onto the ice at the open air ice rink at Obersee or at the indoor ice rink.
